FAQs

Are your exercise classes suitable for everyone?

A. Absolutely. Kinesis trains everyone aged 16 and over and of all abilities and fitness levels. One-on-one sessions are tailored to your needs and abilities. All of our classes are small which means I can keep a close eye on you and provide you with any modifications necessary to ensure you are exercising safely and effectively. It works the other way too; if you’re looking for more of a challenge there’s always a more difficult option.

Where does Kinesis operate?

A. Kinesis has a fully-equipped private fitness studio at Middle Colenso Farm, near Goldsithney. Having worked in Australia, where most of my fitness sessions were outdoors, I will also be making the most of the summer months to offer outdoor classes whether on the lawn here at Middle Colenso or at the beach or other outdoor venues.

What do I wear?

A. Exercise clothes such as shorts or leggings and a T-shirt as well as training shoes for fitness classes. Shoes are not worn for Pilates but you may choose to wear socks. If your session is outside, make sure you have a waterproof or hat and sunscreen depending on the weather.

Do I need to provide any equipment?

A. No, the studio has all of the equipment you need. I will also provide any equipment required for outdoor training. You should, however, ensure you have a water bottle and towel with you for your workout. There is a water fountain in the studio.

How do I get started?

A. In order to get the most out of your Pilates classes you need to understand the basic principles of the method. For this reason I recommend that everyone who would like to join a class have a private session with me first. This session is beneficial even if you have done Pilates before as my teaching methodology may be different from that of your previous teacher. This session will also enable me to assess any injuries or conditions that could affect your participation, ensuring that you remain safe and gain maximum benefit from Pilates.

Classes run in blocks which enables participants to familiarise themselves with an exercise before tackling complex movement patterns. This ensures a solid foundation and a clear sense of progression.

How often do I have to train?

A. That is entirely up to you. If you are undertaking personal training you may wish to train several times a week or just once a month. You can do one PT session per week and supplement it with other classes. Pilates classes run in blocks of six.

Can I work out with a friend?

A. Yes, you can work out with a friend or a small group of friends. Prices are discounted according to the number of people in the group.

I have a medical condition. Can I still exercise?

A. That depends on your condition. Exercise can be beneficial for many conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis. I specialise in exercise for those with chronic disease but you should speak to your doctor to obtain clearance before beginning an exercise programme.

I’m pregnant. Should I be working out?

A. Unless there are complications, gentle exercise during pregnancy is recommended. Make sure you get the all-clear from your doctor first.

I’m 65 and I’ve never exercised before. Which class is suitable for me?

A. If you’re new to exercise or haven’t done any physical activity for a long time it’s probably best to start with one of my Fit Forever classes or a beginners’ Pilates class. Each one offers different benefits but both provide a gentle introduction to exercise. You could also try some personal training sessions to build your confidence and fitness levels before you move onto a more challenging activity. Exercise is a great way to stay fit and active as we get older. It strengthens our bones and heart and helps to ward off diseases such as type II diabetes.

How do I pay?

A. Kinesis Fitness accepts payment by direct bank transfer, cash and cheque. In order to take advantage of our discount packages, payment must be made in advance. Classes must be pre-booked in blocks. If you miss a class you are welcome to attend an alternative class within that block, subject to availability. Please note that I am unable to offer refunds for missed classes.
