A post-workout smoothie
I’m a big fan of smoothies, especially after a hard workout. They’re a great way to refuel and get some nutrients back into your body.
You can add just about anything to your smoothie and today I wanted to use up some spinach an half an avocado I had in the fridge. After a quick scout around the kitchen I came up with the following recipe.
Choc Cherry Smoothie
1 tbsp raw cacao powder
Half an avocado
A handful of spinach leaves
A handful of frozen cherries
Unsweetened almond milk
Throw all of the ingredients into a blender with some ice cubes and whizz together until you have the consistency you like. I sprinkled a few cacao nibs on mine for added crunch.
It’s simple, delicious and good for you.
The avocado adds a lovely, creamy smoothness and is an excellent source of healthy fats. Spinach is rich in iron as well as vitamins K, A and C. As a chocoholic I love cacao which not only gives me that chocolate hit I crave but packs a serious antioxidant punch as do cherries. They also have strong anti-inflammatory properties which make them an ideal post-workout snack.
